OLOF is Going Greener

As we work to help our students become global citizens and stewards of the Earth, Our Lady of Fatima is taking on a number of greening initiatives. One of our first was the Walk to School challenge which has been very successful.

Our next initiative entails reducing our ecological footprint by reducing the amount of waste and recycling in our daily lunches and snacks. Your child may have come home and told you that our large blue recycle bins have been replaced by much smaller ones. Our goal is to reduce the amount of waste that Our Lady of Fatima produces. Parents can help by packing their child’s snack and lunch items in reusable containers. Sending a plastic zip-lock bag can also be used for students to return compostable and other waste back home to be placed in family compost and recycle bins in an environmentally friendly manner.

This initiative, often referred to as ‘boomerang lunch program’, will help both educators and parents teach our children that it is the responsibility of all members of our global community to take care of our planet.

Thank you in advance for your support of this initiative.
